Hello Readers!
Today in our core novel work we were shocked to find that out that Smoke Shell was among the six warriors chosen to be sacrificed and buried with King Flint Sky God. We learned that burying warriors with a King so that they can serve the king in the Upper World.
This part of the book really shocked us. What were you thinking when we read this section?

Oh my gosh was the first thought that came to my mind Mr. Font! Even though we knew that in the Mayan culture you need everything that you need to survive in the real word like clothes, gold, food, and jewelry so you can do good in the afterworld but I never really thought about the slaves even though they are very important to higher class people! Even though Smoke Shell and Six Sky Monkey are being sacrificed I still feel really bad for Double Bird and Feather Dawn because Double Bird was having Smoke Shells baby and Feather Dawn was just getting married to Six Sky Monkey! What was the saddest part for me was when Smoke shell went with Great Skull Zero to go fasten and before he walked of the temple steps to join Great Skull Zero he told Evening Star to take care of Double Bird! I'm not going to lie I had some tears but I chocked them back for music class!
ReplyDelete#This well of Sacrifice chapter was very emotional

I saw me and Mrs.Lust tear up a lot when we heard taht line of Smoke Shell telling Eveing Star Macaw "take care of Double Bird."
DeleteI could hear the depression in his voice but he honestly didn't want to show it because he is a brave warrior! And he respects they gods. Jada, we have to have a tear out after school and make a water puddle of years from the one and only ( jada & Caitlin ) so when everyone else walks in the classroom the next day, they will sink in the water of tears
I agree! That line, "take care of Doublebird" gets me every year!

I can't even belive it! I was super shocked that happend! I almosts antes to tackle King Flint Sky God for when he called out Smoke Shells name! I was like the Gods are wrong and your wrong! I wanted him to pick a non-important person or at least the gods to pick a non-important person. As a reader I would of totally had a heart attack if they were calling young girls names and if they called Evening Star Macaw you would of saw me and Jada faint onto the floor and die! They also said that the slaves of King Flint Sky God we're going to be buried with him and Smoke Shell, Six Sky Monkey and the rest of the brave Warriors were buried with him, but those people are SUPER important to everyone one of the Mayans. It also got me thinking maybe The Gods wanted Great Skull Zero to be king so instead of burrying the slaves of Kinf Flint Sky God, they burried important people of the Mayans. Instead of just regularly killing the important people, they would just burrying them in a peaceful way so it would be easier to get rid of them! I absolute love that theory because I worked rely hard on it. I also feel bad for Double Bird because she is a pregnant woman with no men to take over with her so she can the baby with the one she loved, so I felt like I was her, I could feel her heart breaking into pieces as she heard smoke shells name get called! And I also feel bad for Evening Star Macaw because Smoke Shell was Her bestfriend. She told her about the Mayans and loved spending time with her brother, and at that moment I could also feel her heart break when she heard her brother/bestfriends name get called to be burried!

I know!!!!!!! Isn't it even worse now that we know Blue Quetzal supports Caitlin's theory that Great Skull Zero is making the whole thing up and just eliminating potential kings?!?!?!
DeleteCan't wait to read more!

I thought the gods were very wrong with their thoughts! They were going to sacrifice the slaves, not important Nobles or children but both Smoke Shell and Six Sky Monkey play a very important role so I dont know why they would sacrfice them?! That also means the gods were sort of not following their own rules on what they said and that's just not fair!!! When they had called Smoke Shells name I swear I felt as if I were going to cry because I was so sucked into the story at that part I felt like I was his sister and I thought he was part of my life and that's a little crazy but that's how I felt. I mean will Smoke Shell (an important character) take the sacrifice and die so we won't see him ever again in the book or is he going to run aways and try to survive because he still has a faimly and a wife with a baby? That question is the question I really want to be answered so badly!!! I swear that was the first time I was so close to being able to take a tear!!

I really can't believe im saying this but, I do agree! I thought the gods were totally wrong! But hey, that's what they believed that the gods haven told them and so they listen to the gods to keep them happy! Like putting a tree in you living room is not wierd every December!

Well even though it doesn't really seem fair to kill the other nobles when the king dies but when you think back to Mayan culture it does make sense to them! If you remember when you die they say you go to the afterworld in a second life so you need food and clothes and stuff like that so if you are a king you wouldn't really go anywhere without your brave warriors.

- The one and only Jada
Remember- Now Blue Quetzal believes it WASN'T a message from the gods. In my opinion that makes it even worse!
DeleteBut to think about it I personally thought that was the only part I was really interested in because I'm still not loving the book to much. But now I feel like the book is going to get more interesting because of how good that part was and how much cliff hangers it left!
