It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year!

I was listening to this song and it inspired this blog post.

It got me wondering, What two things are you looking forward to this holiday season and WHY? Make sure to tell me why you are looking forward to those items.

This is published for the world, so make sure to revise and edit your comment!

Traditions....

Hello Superheroes!

The other day we were talking about traditions that take place in our household in December.

Joe shared about his sister's birthdays.

Kylie shared about celebrating Hannukah.

We heard about bird nests in Christmas trees and other fun things we do in December to celebrate.
Here are my two dogs, Tucker & Copper, in front of my tree last year!

In my family we have a few December Traditions. We always have a big "Trim the Tree" Party where family and friends come over for dinner and then to help us decorate the Christmas Tree. We always get new Christmas Pajamas on Christmas Eve and stay in them ALL DAY LONG on Christmas Day! We also celebrate my brother, Dylan's birthday! This year we will be in Disney World on his birthday in his favorite park- Animal Kingdom. I can't wait!
Dylan and I with Safari Mickey at Animal Kingdom

Those are just a few of my December traditions!

It got me wondering what Holidays do you celebrate in December and what are some of the traditions in your house?

Can't wait to hear about it!

Fall Blogging Challenge #3

Hello bloggers!

Before I get started on this blogging challenge, let me remind you that responses should be thoughtful. Make sure to edit for spelling, capitals, and punctuation before publishing to the world.

I hope you are enjoying your time off and are looking forward to getting back together after break. I'm looking forward to seeing you guys again! Today I started a new book and read "Entertainment Weekly". Entertainment weekly is one of my "easy reads"- it's a magazine all about movies and television shows. The magazine has stories about how many of the movies that are coming out shortly have been made. Most recently I read articles about " Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them" (the new movie in the Harry Potter series), Dr. Strange (the newest movie in the Marvel universe) and the new live action Beauty and the Beast movie.

It got me thinking- I LOVE the movies! I love sitting in a comfy chair with my popcorn, Pepsi, and some sort of gummy snack (either Swedish Fish, Sour Patch Kids, or Twizzlers) and entering the world brought to me by the movies.
Here's my family and I getting ready to see the new Stars Wars Movie.
I have many "favorite" movies. I have favorite musicals (West Side Story), favorite comedies (Clue), Favorite dramas (A Time to Kill), favorite Disney films (Little Mermaid, Lion King, Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast), favorite old movies (Casablanca)...well, you get the picture.

That got me wondering, what are some of your favorite movies and WHY?

Fall Break Blogging Challenge #2

Hello friends, Remember me!

Mrs. Dzugan and I enjoying the Magic at Walt Disney world this Summer!
It's time for our second Fall Break Blogging Challenge. Are you up for the challenge?  I can tell you are.

For this blogging challenge I am wondering-

What is something fun you've done so far over the break?
OR
What are looking forward to doing later in the break?

My brother and I are going to NYC on Wednesday to see one of our favorite Broadway performers in a limited time show. I am definitely looking forward to this and can't wait for Wednesday to get here. Her name is Kristin Chenoweth and she is probably most famous for being in the Broadway show Wicked. Here she is singing with Idina Menzel (also from Wicked, but also Elsa from Frozen).

I can't wait to hear from you guys- I miss ya!

Fall Break Blogging Challenge #1

Well hello my friends-

I hope that you have enjoyed the beginning of our fall break. I spent the first day of the break doing what my family calls a "Pajama Day". Basically I was in my pajamas all day! I read a little, cooked a little, watched some TV, and ended the day with a movie (or two-since I didn't have to get up early the next day).

Today I was a bit more productive but spent a great deal of time reading. I was reading a book that was just getting so good that I couldn't stop. I kept telling myself "one more chapter" but as soon as I finished that "one more chapter" I HAD to read another one! Has that ever happened to you? When I finished the book I felt like I wanted to stay with the characters, in the story, a little longer. I had wished their was a sequel or a movie so that I could keep stay with the characters a little longer- similar to the way I felt when we finished Stone Fox. I was changed by this book and the characters just like we all were when we read the last chapter of Stone Fox.

That got me wondering- What book are you currently reading? Are you enjoying it? What makes it a good book?

Can't wait to check out your responses!

Pumpkins EVERYWHERE!

Hello heroes!

This is the Mickey Mouse inspired design I
carved this year.
Halloween is one of my favorite times of the year. I enjoy the cooler weather (who doesn't love wearing a sweater) and I LOVE all things pumpkin! One of my family traditions for as long as I can remember is our annual family Pumpkin Party. The whole family comes over and we carve pumpkins into Jack O'lanterns. We move all the furniture out of the way and watch old Halloween cartoons and movies while we cut, clean, empty, and carve our pumpkins. I'm usually responsible for food at family parties. This year we kept it easy with one of my favorite foods- PIZZA for dinner. I made a ton of desserts including Pumpkin Blondies, Apple Tarts, Oatmeal Cookies, Pumpkin Cupcakes, and Frozen Smore Pops. Something you might not know about me is that I LOVE to bake and like making new things.

Here is my brother (Dylan), little cousin (Julia),
and I getting our pumpkins started.

Just a few of our pumpkin designs.
Lastly, we clean the seeds and roast them for a fall time snack!

Blogging about my Halloween traditions makes me wonder- what Halloween traditions does your family have?

Can't wait to hear from you!

So Much to Read...

Hello readers-

Today when we were book shopping I noticed that many of you couldn't wait to get your hands on some new books. I LOVED seeing how excited you were to have new books to read from our library.  As I mentioned today- I had a teacher meeting at Barnes and Nobles after school and I felt the same excitement that you felt when you shopped in our library today. There were SOOOOO many books that I wanted to read (and, as promised, I purchased a few for our classroom).
Sorting books always makes Copper tired.

As I browsed the shelves I saw some new books I am dying to read, some new favorites, and some old favorites that I have read so many times that the cover just makes me smile. It made me wonder- What is one of your FAVORITE books?

Can't wait to read your comments!

These are a Few of My Favorite Things

Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens! Although they may be Julie Andrews "Favorite Things" in The Sound of Music they aren't really my favorite things. My favorite things can be summed up in three words: Harry, Heroes, and Mickey!

During one of our Paper Blogging sessions I shared my love for Disney. I really love watching Disney movies, listening to Disney songs, and (of course) going to Walt Disney World. For me, Disney World is truly the Happiest Place on Earth. I love the shows, rides, characters, and fireworks! I try to go to Disney World as frequently as possible.
I LOVE the fireworks over Cinderella's Castle at night. They are so pretty!

Time for a little info on favorite number 2! I am a HUGE Harry Potter fan. You may (or may not) know that I taught fourth and fifth grade for 9 years with a Harry Potter themed classroom. I think JK Rowling's books are fantastic and I think they did a great job adapting them into excellent movies. I've even traveled to London, England to visit the Harry Potter movie sets.

My last favorite thing I am sure you know about- SUPERHEROES! I love a good superhero movie. When I was little the X-men were my favorite heroes, particularly Storm and Wolverine. Now I am a HUGE Avengers fan (Captain America is my fave) but I am looking forward to the new Justice league movie.

Sharing my favorite things made me wonder-What is one of your favorite things?

Can't wait to hear about your favorites in the comments below!

Reading Super Powers

Hello Heroes!

Not sure if you've heard, but our Classroom Library has been taken over by the JOKER and his gang of villainous, well, VILLAINS

We have been working hard and examining the traits of a Superhero in order to gain our Reading Super Powers and win back our library from the Joker. We examined a clip of heroes working together by viewing a small clip of the FANTASTIC Disney movie The Incredibles. Then we created this chart showing the traits they exhibited.
Lastly we've begun exploring METACOGNITION- our first Reading Super Power. We learned that Metacognition was an important part of REAL Reading and that it meant we needed to think about our thinking.

It's tough work, but nothing a 3rd Grade Superhero can't handle!
